Is snooker going the way of middle distance running?

The 5000 and 10000 metres races at the Olympics used to be amongst the blue ribband events, now nobody much cares which 3 Kenyans share the medals.

In 10 years, the World Snooker Championships will be contested by about 27 Chinese and 5 others. How many people in UK will care who wins?

i have an idea to liven things up

replace the normal snooker table with a huge oval astroturf area with 6 narrow 5aside type goals, 1 at each corner and 1 at each end of the halfway line, do away with the cue ball and use coloured footballs

and instead of a running track have runners run round a 12ft by 6ft dining table

I should think most uk based snooker players will still want to know.

Watching the best is the way to improve.

If they are the best,it doesn't matter where they're from.

A lot of people watch the football world cup.That isn't going to be won by anyone from the uk either.But they still watch.

Its not about watching anyway. Its a world championship.That means its about finding the best player in the world at that time.
