  1. It could be depending how you hold your body, or if you fall. Otherwise I don't think it is harmful. If you are planning to do it every day for the rest of your life it might be, it might not. It varies. Besides there is so many things out there that they can be bad for your back, but it depends from person to person. Why do you even worry about that??

  2. pretty much any sport is harmful for your back.

  3. If you fall hard enough.  But it does work the back muscles, so as long as you don't fall it should actually do a lot to help make sure you don't have back trouble.  Its excellent exercise, as long as you can maintain balance.

  4. I had back surgery a year ago, and i have had no problem shredding on the slopes this winter...

  5. It can be if you fall a lot, especially off rails or jumps.  That said, I had a lower back injury several years ago.  During the winter when I am snowboarding on a regular basis, my back is pain free and strong.  Off season, when I am not snowboarding, I have back pain.  Stretching, squats, and crunches help me maintain my back off season, but it never feels as good as when I snowboard on a regular basis.  So I feel that snowboarding is actually good for your back!
