Is soapy water a base ?

  1. Most of the time, soapy water is a base.  A base is used in its production but this does not mean the base is still in the soap.  Some soaps are bit more acidic.  They are fatty acid chains with a hydrophilic end so the fatty part will stick to oils and the hydrophilic end will stick to water.  This helps soaps and detergents dissolve oil and dirt in water.

    I would suggest getting some litmus paper or pH paper and testing various soapy waters and recording your results if this is a school project.


  2. Yes water containing soap solution is basic in nature as soap is made using alkali like NaOH.

  3. ya of course soapy water is a base coz 4 the preperation of  soap we r adding NaOH which is commonly a base....mmm some of the acids are HCL hydrochloric acid,H2SO4 sulphuric acid,CH3COOH its acetic acid COOH-CH2OH its glycollic acid,CH2OH-CH2OH its Formic acid,C6H5OH-COOH its Benzoic acid n its goes on..........bases r Na oH,NH4OH,KOH etc....:- }its sodium hydroxide,ammonium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide got it lol ........!!!!!!!!!!!!
