  1. Certainly not: solutions are strongly basic.

    It used to be sold under the name of 'water glass' and was used a lot for preserving eggs when fresh eggs were difficult to get hold of just after WW2.


  2. Probably not, because the solution of sodium silicate in water is strongly basic and can be harmful for the skin. Besides, if a solution of sodium silicate gets on the skin and dries, it's difficult to wash it off. In fact, sodium silicate was once used as glue for paper...
