Nowadays modern world is thrusting towards renewable energy sources. It is said renewable energy like solar, wind, tilde energy are good for human and they don’t unbalance the natural balance. So, modern countries are going to set up more and more renewable energy power plants. I have a question about solar power plants using PV (Photovoltaics) cells. They traps energy radiated by electromagnetic wave of sun. It means they store energy from sun. Then they complete leaves energy to our environment. Whatever we do with the energy got from PV cells at last it becomes thermal energy and warms our environment. Suppose an open field of 400 m2. The energy comes to this area from sun most of them reflected, thus this field is not responsible for global warming. But if we fill the total area with PV cells then most of the energy will not be reflected. They will be trapped in PV cells and will produce electricity and at last thermal energy will be produced.

Is it responsible for global warming?

  1. I thought I answered this question

    NO

  2. Yes, as it is solar energy that heats the earth.

However, using solar energy to produce electricity does not increase global warming.  Contrary to your statement, most of the solar energy striking a field is not reflected.  The soil and other things are heated.  They give this back partly by reflection, but mostly by radiation and convection.

In a PV system, part of the sun's energy is reflected, part heats the PV panels and part is used to generate electricity.

When the electricity is used, this energy returns as heat.

Just as in the sun's energy strikes the field and is returned to the atmosphere, it does the same with  PV system.  The PV system does not create any energy.
