Is some aquarium glass made sort of greenish?

Mmk. Let's try this again.

Hi. (:

I was just wondering if aquariums are usually greenish, like the glass itself. Or, if they aren't supposed to be, is there a reason that mine is?

Thanks for reading.

People. I'm not that stupid. It isn't algae. The tank is empty, and thoroughly washed with vinegar and scrubbed reallyreally well.

But it's still greenish. Never had fish in it while I've had it, but it's second hand so I don't know if it was supposed to be like that...

  1. Many possibilities have been mentioned.  I'd like to add mine.

Does the tank have thick glass?  Large tanks with thick glass sometimes have a greenish cast over it.

  2. Glass is seldom perfectly clear (unless it's special expensive stuff for fibre optics and optical instruments)

Normal window glass, which is used to make tanks, will have a slight green tinge. In a window we dont notice this because we are looking through the thin direction. In a tank you can usually see the edges of the glass and notice the green colour.

  3. haha as i said its probably chemicals thatre harmful to fish

  4. That's weird.  It could just be the material of which its made of or chemicals that were put on it.

  5. its probably algae or the tank needs to be cycled

  6. Are you sure it's glass, not acrylic?  Acrylic readily absorbs certain medications, especially malachite green and methylene blue, which will turn it green and blue respectively (could you tell by their names? ;^]).  If it is glass rather than acrylic, do you have anything green in or near the tank that would cause green light to be displayed on the glass?

  7. well who  ever had it before had a bad algae problem the algae is stained on the glass thats all i know

but if the tank was bran new then i have no idea
