Is something wrong with my cat.

My cat had kittens about 2 months ago, and now she acts really different. Like she used to cuddle with us and now nothing. So is it normal?

  1. Are the kittens still there? My first thought is that she is either experiencing "postpartum depression" (hormonally related, both pets and people can become indifferent after pregnancy). The other possibility is that she is grieving. We use homeopathy with our cats (our vet is holistic). If you think it's the absence of her kittens, a homeopathic remedy that you can find at natural food stores, some grocery chains is called Natrum muriaticum. If the postpartum indifference seems to fit, the remedy that can help is Sepia. I'd need to know more to have a better sense, as the remedy that helps is based on the individual way the cat expresses her different behavior. Another thought is from loss of fluids (nursing), which Sepia would also fit.

When our female bunny got spayed, she got so quiet and didn't seem to care about much. We gave her a remedy to undo the chronic effects of anesthesia (homeopathic Phosphorus), and it helped just a bit. We gave Arnica for the surgery, and it helped a bit, but didn't last. I kept staring at her, trying to get a sense of what was going on, when it hit me: She was indifferent. Since she just had surgery (a spay), I gave her Sepia. I swear, within minutes she was fine, back to her old self.

http://www.ewildagain.org is a website with some homeopathic first-aid remedies. It says it's for wild animals, but it helps all animals (even human ones!). While normal, it's not healthy, and doesn't need to stay this way. Clearly, you both would benefit from the cuddling!

  2. Yes, She is worry about her kittens, she is a mother now. leave her along and let her take care of her kittens and you take care of her.

  3. She's a mother now so she is a mother 1st and pet 2nd. It's completely normal, motherhood will take up almost all her time and energy.  Once she's spayed she can be a pet all the time.

We found an already pregnant girl, she is so much happier now that she doesn't have to be mommy.  She has turned out to be a very sweet, very affectionate, and very playful kitty.  She was great with her kittens but she seems much happier now that she doesn't have to deal with the physical and mental stress.

  4. She's very tired from caring for the kittens.  Pregnancy and nursing stress cat's systems.  Have her spayed immediately so she doesn't have to go through this anymore and she'll get her strength back so she feels like cuddling.
