He's a Teddy Bear Hamster and I bought him today at a pet store. They said that he's 3 months old....... So I took him home, put him in his new cage...and after a bit, he just started to lay down and not move with his eyes open...(yes he's breathing, lol)...what could be wrong with him? Its 8:28 pm here so he should be active!!!

  1. lol it is 8:30 here in washington lol maybe he is getting used to everything

  2. He may just be overwhelmed by too many new things.  Give him a bit of time to get his bearings, and by tomorrow he should be fine.

  3. hampsters are nocturnal, which means they sleep durring the day, and they play at night time.

  4. Actually, they don't exactly have a "wake-up time". They kinda get up when the lights are out and more around 10:00. Anyways, it is hot and that is what my hamster does all the time. It sprawls out instead of huddling in a ball to cool off. Imagine what they feel like with all that fur!

Don't worry. He'll be fine. Good luck and I hope this helps!

  5. my hampster does the same thing! or did, right before he died

  6. He is most likely just overwhelmed and trying to get used to his new home, if he ran a lot on his wheel he may be tired.

Make sure his cage in not in direct sunlight or in a hot area as hamsters are susceptible to heat stroke (I found this out the hard way so be warned).

Most likely its nothing to be worried about but keep an eye on him, if there is any mucus or goo around his mouth, nose, or eyes he may have respiratory problems. Oh, and don;t use cedar bedding as it can cause serious respiratory problems and sometimes death.

If he doesn't get more active in a few hours or by tomorrow night I;d call the pet store and tell them whats wrong and see what they have to say. Just try not to handle him for a few days while he adjusts to his new home and keep and eye on him. I'm surprised he's 3 months old since at this age the hamster is already mature ( on the young side, but no baby).

    Good luck!! <3
