  1. sony vegas is awesome, just wish it included enhanced special effects

  4. Vegas is great, but too much if you're just starting video editing.  Vegas Movie Studio is also a great editor but more suitable as a first editor.  If you outgrow it it has the advantage that you can upgrade to the full version of Vegas for just the price difference, and VMS projects can be edited with Vegas.
