Heck no it's not.  Its an absolutely terrible workflow and extremely buggy.  If you learn on Vegas then it will be a lot different when you decide to upgrade to something better (if  you want to continue editing).  I'd actually recommend Adobe Premiere Elements or Pro because the workflow is similar to Final Cut Pro (since Adobe basically ripped it off with minor changes) and Avid (the industry standard program).  Premiere is much more intuitive and not as buggy.  Also, it'll help you out more as your skill level increases and is much more compatible with After Effects if you choose to get that as well and Photoshop.

I like it and have used it for a long time.   I've just upgraded everytime they came out with a new one, so I haven't had to pay the big amount at once.  it can do a lot of stuff and is really professional compared to a lot of other programs out there.
