Question:

Is sound cutting out on my DVD player due to a cheap HDMI cable?

I'm begining to suspect that the higher priced cables have better bandwidth handling capabilities with less noise.

I also ran my HDMI cables right next to power cables which is a no-no in the electronics industry due to AC induction.

Do the cables matter or should I try seperating my signal cables from my power cables?

  1. if the cable is not shielded that could be the problem if you have a lot of RF's in your area.

  2. If teh cables are too weak to carry the signal due to length, that could be an issue.....overall, cheap cables at the appropriate lengths are fine.

  3. Over 6ft I wouldn't think there would be any problems with RF or electrical induction for your power cords. If it were 25ft and you ran them parallel to an AC line...then maybe. It is possible that you have a poor quality or defective cable.

My thought on what it could be:

    - It could be a Handshaking issue. Does video cut out too. A firmware update might solve this.

    - Could be a flaky connection, make sure the cables are snug on both ends

    - It could be a cable issue. There might be a bad solder joint, or it could actually be an inferior cable.

If you do decide to switch cables check out http://monoprice.com. I have a 25ft cable and a bunch of 6ft cables and have had no problems. They have 6ft HDMI 1.3a certified cables for under $5. They would perform on par with the $60+ Monster HDMI cables.
