  1. South Shore Hospital is in South Weymouth, so it is actually in Norfolk County. But yes, generally it is viewed (by south shore residents, physicians & Paramedics/EMT's) as the area's main hospital. There is also Brockton Hospital which also sees its fair share of Level I traumas & has a great cancer center. So, if you lived in that area that would be a good choice. The Morton, Jordan, Good Samaritan, Sturdy, etc. are good enough but will look to med-flight out a patient that they can't handle (which is more than you would think). South Shore is so popular because it has increasingly been granted more & more accreditations & specializations. For example, they now have a separate ER for pediatric patients. This ER is staffed by Pediatric emergency doctors that usually also work at The Children's Hospital in Boston. Also, the South Shore now has its own Cardiac Catherzation lab, where all the other local hospitals don't have the ability/permission to perform these types of emergency cardiac procedures. Also, they have a renowned Pain clininc & reputable cancer affliations & services.

In general, if you have a non-life threatening accident/illness you can go to any local hospital around here & be fine. BUT if you have something more severe & you have a choice, the South Shore is definately the way to go. If you live north of Weymouth though, Boston hospitals are worth the extra few minute drive.
