  1. There are some beautiful apartments on Eldridge Road just north of Westheimer---this area is still new and pretty safe.  A studio may run $875/month, a 1 bedroom, over 1,000.00.

  2. southwest houston has a lot of apts to chose from. Besides Eldridge, brair forest has some really nice ones that are pretty new to the area. Any place from Beltway 8 out to Hwy 6 is a nice area and many places to chose from.

  3. You're from NYC?

Well Southwest Houston is as close to reminding you of NYC as it gets.

Westheimer is as good as it gets for Houston.   I can't stand  the traffic though, makes me roll down the window and swear at people.

Take Highway 6 all the way north till it turn into FM 1960, you have alot of options like Willowbrook area.  Spring area ain't bad either.

I like Klein better than everywhere else, Klein has the cheapest gas prices.   $3.43 in my neighborhood off FM 2920 & Kuykendahl

  4. I lived in a beautiful apartment with low rent in a seemingly nice neighborhood near West Bellfort and Kirkwood for a couple of months.  I loved the area until I got robbed at gunpoint one night walking home after my car broke down.

I've since moved to South Korea.

Anyway, the safest area in the Houston area is just over the Ft Bend County line in Sugar Land.  Indeed, Sugar Land has been rated time and again by Money Magazine as Americas safest small to medium sized city.  Rents are reasonable too, and if you're looking to buy, property taxes are much lower there than in Harris County.

  5. Southwest Houston probably has the nicest neighborhood in Houston. Those including Memorial, River Oaks, Tanglewood, etc. These though are mostly large homes that wealthy families live in with their children going to elite private schools such as Kinkaid, St. John's, Episcopal, etc.

As for apartments there are many nice ones all over this area.

Southwest Houston probably has the lowest "severe" crime rate. There are more gang related shootings, etc. in other parts of town. There is good shopping, eating, and other living amenities in Southwest Houston.

  6. Since the price of gas has gone up ... I would suggest that you try to move closer to where you work, that way you won't have a long commute..

The nicer the area is the more your rent will be.....

  7. I used to live on Fondren and S. Braeswood, and trust me, that is an area you may want to stay away from. Instead, if you want to stay on the southwest side, you can stay in Meyerland, off of 610 and Beechnut, or the neighborhood around 610 and N. Braeswood. Those are some really good places too.

Also an answerer said stay on the Southwest Freeway(US-59 S) and try to live between Beltway 8 and Hwy 6. That's a good idea too.

Or live where I live now, in Spring(I-45 at 1960).
