  1. Not always.  For example, cheapest I see for July with Southwest is $119+tax each way on their lowest "Wanna Get Away" fare special.  This ends up $257 round trip with all taxes and fees.  But United has it for $228 in July, all taxes and fees included.

    Be sure to check both Midway and O'Hare (MDW and ORD) as well as Bush (IAH) and Hobby (HOU).  Some searches will cover all 4 if you just search from CHI to HOU.


  2. Not always.  Since IAH is hub for Continental and ORD is hub for United, you should try both airlines.
