I have been lifting free weights 3 times a week for the last 4 months and have lost 30 pounds and gotten much more muscular. I drink a smoothe every morning that has soy protein. I also drink one after lifting. I was working out at home but I joined a health club last week. I met a work out partner, who is built like a brick house. He told me whey protein is better for men and that soy protein has a estrogein like substance which is harmful for men if they eat to much of it over a long period of time.

  1. "Using your program I've made notable improvements in strength, and am enjoying my workouts more than ever before.

The chief improvement has been renewed confidence in my workout program...

The perception that even after 10 years of training, there is still much progress I can make.

I've seen a lot of advice over the years, and I have to say that your materials are the best I've seen... no nonsense, good advice.

One of the pitfalls of training is falling into ways of doing things that aren't optimal, but which work "well enough". Your materials point out places where I've been too complacent, and help me to identify those old patterns that aren't working."

  2. Your friend is right. I'm not sure if protein has an estrogen like substance. This estrogen like substance is NOT harmful but it does have adverse effects on someone trying to build muscle mass. This estrogen like substance in all soy products, reduces the amount of natural testosterone the body makes. If the body was a car, natural testosterone is like nitrous oxide when it comes to building muscles. The reason why guys are more muscular than girls, is that we produce around 60 times more testosterone. If you take something that decreases the amount of testosterone you make, you reduce your capacity to build muscle. Testosterone is also helpful for burning fat. So keep that in mind too.

  3. Soy protein is not bad for you although there is some research that suggest that too much of it can have a somewhat estrogenic affect on some men. I wouldn't hurt to try. Just monitor what is happening to your body while you are on it so you could catch any potential problems before they get out of hand.

  4. Listen to him, hes right.  Soy protein is very bad for males for lift weights.   Why would you want to add more estrogen to your body.  Go buy some whey protein, problem solved.

  5. i heard that anything soy is bad for men. If you don't plan on having kids then i guess it's ok. But if you do want kids....then i would suggest not having anything to do with soy.

  6. naw you dont have anything to worry about. soy and whey would be an even better combination, but since you lift weights, get more whey if anything. soy would be a cool snack cuz they come in so many different ways of preperation now, but to work out, stick with whey protein.

and yea if a SHITLOAD of soy protein is eaten over a long time, then its not too great for men, but if you dont over do it on the soy protein you got nothing to worry about.
