  1. By Ranger training do you mean the school or the pipeline to be an actual Ranger serving in 75th? I'd say RIP, Regimental PRC, and Ranger school are a bigger physical kick in the junk. Selection is very physical but the Q isn't as much. Plus you have days off etc. for SF training. But it's two different methods of training. Ranger school is designed to kick you in the junk and leave you exhausted to see how you perform. While SF is actually trying to teach you a new MOS to perform etc.

  2. I thought Rangers were Special Forces, Perhaps I' m wrong and someone would like to correct me. I only Know of SAS.

  3. no i wouldent think so you dont need much to be a ranger.

  4. The 75th Ranger Regiment falls under Special Operations Command (SOCOM). Members of the 75th have gone through RIP (wear the Ranger scroll) although not all members have gone through Ranger School (wear the Ranger tab).

Special Forces also fall under SOCOM. All members of SF have gone through SFAS (wear the SF tab). A good number of SF guys have been through Ranger School (are tabbed) and/or served in the 75th Ranger Regiment (scrolled).

Ranger School, RIP, and SFAS are all extremely physically and mentally demanding. Rangers and Special Forces have different primary missions and both are excellent at what they do.

An example would be Army Special Forces were inserted into an area by helos from the 160th SOAR. They recon and gather intel on the local surroundings on their own and by meeting with locals, particularly on an airfield in which troops and supplies can be brought in quickly for a long-term stay. Army Rangers parachute into that airfield and secure the entire airport for regular use.

  5. IBNFE, Rangers aren't Special Forces at all. Special Forces are a completely different unit in the US Army. Rangers, like Special Forces are Special Operations.

    As for the question asked.

Both are challenging so I wouldn't be the person to say one is harder than the other, they are too different to compare. They each have their purpose and their training revolves around that purpose.

Rangers are specialized infantry assigned to SOCOM. They focus on hard strikes against targets and places.

Special Forces have a more specialized role to play in that one of their missions is to go in and train foreign militaries.

Sometimes SF and Ranger missions overlap (ie, they are the same, direct action for example) but overall, they're two completely different entities and their training pipelines reflect that.

  6. Don't think I would tell a Ranger to his face that he wasn't special forces :-)
