The first amendment to the US Constitution says: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

    But as the slogan puts it so well, Freedom isn't free. Many have spilled blood and given their lives to protect this freedom.

Speech isn't even close to free.  Public Schools see to that by indoctrinating our nation's youth with the constant assurance that they have NO rights.  Then you have law enforcement---everyone from the local Sheriff to Homeland Security, just waiting for you to say something that could be construed as a threat or as disrespect.  Then, take government out of the equation, and you have a society and surburban culture that responds to every shocking statement with TORCHES.
