  1. Doing that will kill your car, you use more gas, and kill your brakes and suspension. Not to mention the stress the is under. The Tach will have a red Line where you see 1,2,3 in white then you see 6,7,8 in red thats really bad.

  2. Bad on your brake pads. I'm assuming you have a 4 cyllinder which is why it doesn't accelerate very good probably.

  3. yes, and besides that, it just waste gas.

  4. Yes it's bad plus it gets you TERRIBLE gas mileage. You can go up to 6 or 6 and a half grand before you'll blow the motor.

  5. It is NOT as safe or good.  But it isn't completely terrible either.

What is more important is that you keep your car well maintained.  NYC taxi are driven harshly.  But because they are maintained professionally, they can easily go 100K the first year and go 500K mile in the life of the taxi / car.

    See this article:

Even though the article is about oil, you can see that engine for the most part were NOT damaged because of consistent maintenance.

    Good Luck...

P.S.  I've always driven my engine / car hard.  But because I keep it well maintained, I've never had engine problem (or any other major car problem).

  6. Yes, if you do it on a regular basis. When the tach needle hits the red area, that's bad.

  7. keep it at 2 on the tachometer, anymore is bad, and yes speeding up and braking is terrible for the car.

  8. It's pretty stupid if you ask me. Burning all of that gas for no reason. Personally I hit my gas and then coast halfway down the block to the stop sign.

I don't let my RPM's go above 4 unless of course I am racing but that is a very rare occasion.

  9. Yes, it's bad for your car...and the other drivers on the road.

  10. Of course, you’re overworking the engine, putting stress on the brake system, acceleration system, engine, etc.  A Civic has a small engine, so you’re not going to get great acceleration.   It's probably just a little 4 cylinder engine that doesn’t have a lot of get up and go power.  I've had cars like that, it can be frustrating.  But never beat your car, hit the gas and slam on the brakes all the time.  That's stuff I did when I was a teenager and early 20's and my cars were always getting broke down (and put in the shop).  Since 1994, I have owned 4 Toyota's, all which are still on the road including my new 05 Corola.  Since 1994, I have not had a single repair of any kind.  Toyota is a good car, but I take good care of them as well.  I don't drag race, beat them, and maintain the car as suggested.   I don’t drive like a 100 year old man either, I just take good care and treat the car like it's meant to be treated.  Because of that, all I have to do is change brakes, oil, tires, wiper blades, etc.

  11. Heavy acceleration and braking is hard on the engine, brakes, and uses a lot more gas. The tachometer usually has yellow and red numbers if your engine gets into those numbers it could cause catastrophic damage. The CIVIC is NOT!!! a racecar, it's not designed to run high speed at high RPM.
