Is spelling an important issue on here?

Question

Is bad spelling viewed as a lacking in personal standards, or poor education, or possibly just laziness.

We have spell check on here which has the American spelling of words as opposed to the British way of spelling, but how important an issue do you feel it is. I'm not brilliant by a long way, but I still take pride in how I write, how I spell and above all, try and have good grammar.

Well, there are tons of little kids who go on here and type like this...

"laik i went to were mi perents where and dey laik grounded mi i dunt no wat two do n-e-more laik life sux halp mi!"

Nobody wants to put up with that....I don't mind spelling mistakes, just as long as it is actually readable...

:-) I like the way Britsh people spell, so don't worry, I don't even pay attention to the Spelling Checker anymore lol :-)

I think its laziness, I know tons of people who type like my example above, but IRL they are really good spellers.

Don't know for sure though...

Yes and no, it's up to you . . .

Example, i'm a senior and yet i know how 2 text and all the latest

up 2 date languages, yet i also know how to simply write a good old

fashion cursor letter if the comp breaks down, btw, i'm a highschool

drop out, lol. and while i'm not purrrrrrrrrrrrfect, lol think of it . . .

I mean honestly, how cool is it? being out done by a senior computer

geek . . . lol . . .

Some people are better at math than spelling.  I think if a person knows they are not good with spelling that good sense would tell them to use the spell checker.  I got put in my place by one of my bosses one time when I was young lol.  I mentioned that many of the people I have worked for were not good spellers. lol  She told me that they are here to think and we are here to take care of the spelling. Mmm

Perfect spelling and grammar isn't critical, everyone is entitled to their mistakes, typos, etc. But I still prefer to read a properly written question or response. It is just easier on the eyes, for me anyway, but it also makes everyone take you more seriously. If you can't take the time to write properly, or even use a simple spell checker, then it makes me feel less inclined to answer your question or acknowledge your answer. If you answer a question while repeatedly neglecting to use capital words, proper punctuation, your answer becomes less credible.

That being said, a little mistake here and there doesn't hurt anyone, and this is just a message board, not an English assignment. Some people honestly don't realize that they are making spelling mistakes...etc. But, it takes little additional effort to clean up your writing, and I think it keeps the site neat.

Yes, it is; primarily for clarity, it is difficult to respond to a question written in cyber speak, e.g., Y R U azking me dat?
