Is spirit vinegar the same thing as malt vinegar

i was told i have an intolerance to malt vinegar which is unusual should i avoid mayonaise which has spirit vinegar in it?

  2. Malt vinegar is made by 'malting' barley much the same as beer making, spirit vinegar is distilled and contains small amounts of alcohol which is a concern for muslims etc.

    Try mayonnaise with spirit vinegar, it could be the barley you have an intolerance with, much the same as coeliacs.

NO...spirits, are in most cases now adays, a thing of the past, but Spirits was used in certain cocktail drinks way back when, it is very bubbly, and extremely good for heartburn...although it does contain small amounts of alcohol, hence the reason it was removed from the shelves in the grocerie stores approx. 15-20 yrs ago, when i was a bartender! Hope this helps!
