Question:

Is spring break big in San Juan?

We are considering a last minute trip to San Juan the second week of March. We're looking at hotels in the Old San Juan area, and activities that aren't necessarily what college kids would do (history, architecture, etc) but beaches & outdoor activities as well. Has anyone been there this time of year and can tell us if there are a lot of students on spring break also there? If so, can it get obnoxious? Where do they tend to hang out?

I might as well ask about hotel recommendations in the Old San Juan area. Our criteria are clean & safe, then price. Thank you!

  1. Well, not everyone here makes a big deal out of spring break.

It is mostly thought of as a "vacation" and there's not much really that wild partying going on,

but I can say all my life living here, that it is not obnoxious...

Of course, there are stupid people and very nice educated people, but it's not that insane!

College Students tend to hang out mostly at nightclubs. Commonly known as "pops" here.

Puerto Rico, especially in San Juan, has a great nightlife and people love to party. They are very fun and love to make jokes and party a lot! PRicans are very nice, and they are warm too.

Hotels in San Juan are generally very safe, the quality is great and there are many famous hotel chains like Hilton, Ritz Carlton, etc.

The price ranges from cheap to the pricey $2,500 a night, but the last price I mention is only for really pricey hotels.

However, if you go to PR, don't just party. Go to the mall! PR has the biggest mall in the Caribbean, Plaza Las Americas.

It has a lot of stores and PR also has a lot of cinemas. Like Cinevista or Caribbean Cinemas.

    Type Puerto Rico

Remember that PR is very nice and generally very safe.

Still have any precautions as you would in any place

    Good luck and stay safe

  2. yes I have been there last year with my sons and they can't wait to go back.

  3. Our "spring break" is on the third week of March. A great hotel in the Old San Juan area is El Convento, its a small luxurious hotel, you won't find any college kids there. Around the Old San Juan area there are a vast amount of museums and you're going to appreciate the architecture and the history as well if you decide to stay in the Hotel El Convento. The Sheraton Old San Juan is in the lower part of the Old San Juan and its right in front of the piers, its very pretty , but its surroundings are busier than the El Convento. Old San Juan is very active in the night time, specially on breaks, but I'm sure you will enjoy it! As for beaches and outdoor activities, Condado and Isla Verde are very close to the Old San Juan and yes, there are going to be a lot of people in the beaches; we just love the beach! Most of the hang-out places for college students are in the lower and upper parts of the Old San Juan; there are a lot of pubs, lounges and clubs. Puerto Rico is a very nice place to spend your spring break vacations, you won't regret it!
