They're not exactly the same.  An octopus has eight tentacles, whereas squid have 6 or 10 tentacles, depending on the species.  And yes, some types of octopus and squid are edible.  Have you ever seen "calamari" on a restaurant menu?   That's squid.  The restaurants that offer it usually offer it as an appetizer, and it's usually fried.

the squid and the octopus are different animals completely.  The octopus has eight limbs while squids typically have eight arms and two tentacles, a total of ten.  Both are edible, but I prefer squid, I think.  They are rather rubbery in texture and have a slight fishy flavor.

take a second out of your life and look them up or better yet, goggle them.  they're two different animals which is why they each have their own name.  And no, they're not edible - they prefer living.

That depends on what you mean by edible.

Both the squid and Octapus are cephalopods, along with cuttlefish and the nautelus.  Most cephalopods are mollusks that have lost their shells.

The main difference between the Octopus and squid is the number of legs (8/10 respectively with 2 being specialized for feeding in the squid) and the squid is more stream lined in shape and travels differently.  Squid can also squirt ink (as well as cuttlefish) whereas the octopus cannot.  The octopus is considered more intelligent than the squid, but then again, all intelligence studies need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Similar biological classifications.  Swim "backward".  Expel "ink" when threatened.  Have "suckers" to hold prey.  Sharp beaks which crush shellfish and lobsters.
