I know it's not vegan, but what about vegetarian? It's not meat, but does the squid have to be killed in order for it to be obtained? It seems like an interesting culinary ingredient!

  1. Interesting question..

If you eat seafood/fish you could eat Squid Ink products (aka Squid ink pasta etc). If you eat no animal products then NO.

  2. I believe that since it isn't a flesh produt that it is vegetarian. Your right, that it is deff no vegan...but I would say that it is vegetarian.

  3. I suppose you can just scare the squids and you can get their ink that much easier.

  4. No, it's not vegetarian. I think the animal is killed to obtain it.

    Go vegan!

  5. Squid ink is a product of an organism. This is pretty much like asking "Is milk vegetarian". It all depends on your view of the word. If you're Vegan you would not eat anything that is a product of another animal, however that is very difficult to avoid as manure fertilizes crops and eventually nutrients that were once absorbed by a cow are now absorbed by the ground.

Squid ink has no vegetable or plant properties to it and thus it is not a vegetable.

  6. i would say its Vegetarian

  7. no, its not veggie
