he's all crazy about space and what not, and i think he'd like Star Trek, but i'm kinda concerned about which one to show him. I think the bad effects in TOS would turn him off, and DS9 and ENT seem a little two adult. he might like VOY, but i think i'll show him the mid-seasons of TNG.

what should I show him?

  1. If you want to start him on Star Trek, then I'd consider doing Enterprise first. If you think the 60s effects are bad, the late 80s and early 90s effects for TNG and DS9 weren't all that great compared to the shows later seasons. So I'd say Enterprise, but he'd have to go through this whole temporal cold war arc which even big Star Trek fans like myself didn't enjoy. Overall, just let him watch whatever shows are on for now, and hopefully he'll be old enough to understand what's going on.

  2. How old is he?  Because the bad effects in the original series don't usually stand out too much to kids.  My niece and nephew (6 and 8) love the original Lost in Space, and it's really cheesy.

Voyager and Enterprise were both way too adult, obviously depending upon his age, and DS9 is pretty complex for a kid.

I'd go with TOS and TNG myself.  You might also consider some older shows like Lost in Space or the original Battlestar Galactica.

  3. Ya it should be fine. It's not scary at all! I don't think its vilent for little kids either cause I am one. And my parents make sure I watch aappropriatestuff.

  4. TOS, NG, VOY, and DS9 are fine.  I am the mom of six and my kids watch them but beware they get hooked.  I had to start an RPG for mine and others.  Strickly rated PG.  LOL

  5. I would think the original series would be good for small children. TOS had some really cheesy effects but, the stories were very good and delivered good messages within them. Voyager had some very heavy technical language, mostly by some of the equipment they used etc, which at times was hard to follow. Some episodes on Voyager like "The Cloud" were hilarious, "Riddles" was a soft episode. Voyager had some violent episodes "Scorpion", "Year of h**l", "Macrocasim", "Eqonix (I dunno how it's spelt)" whether or not their suitable is your call. In addition Voyager had a lot of mature subject matter mostly by the relationships and there was a few episodes that may have that, but very mild. I think show the orginal one for starters and then TNG and Voy. I know TNG didn't really have too much bad episodes, except the one's with the Borg may be to scary for a small child. I watched TNG when I was small and it was never a problem for me but, it varies from person to person.
