  1. Build up of static electricity can ignite combustible materials.  This is why most people who handle these types of materials must keep themselves and their equipment grounded to prevent a build up of static charge.  

    To answer your question, static electricity can discharge (like when you get shocked from touching something) and cause a spark which can ignite combustible materials.


  2. Depends on the charge.

    Anything from a harmless shock from the tv screen to lightening I suppose. A harmless shock can also cause your car to catch fire while pumping gasoline, ruin a computer and other stuff :/

  3. Static electricity can also fry a circuit board. Mostly that would have little impact except inconvience, but circuits are also used in medical equipment, airplanes, traffic signals, and other critical functions.
