Is stopping a snowboard a wedge?

Do you wedge the snowboard when you stop it? Or how does it stop, does it magically?

you turn the board sideways on it's side. When you go down a hill you go down like a lower case "l" or an upper case "i"(I). to stop the board you turn it side ways to make it a dash or a minus. -- make sure you lean up the slope or you'll fall on your face or you back!
