  1. Fresh herbs always add taste to your food and fresh Oregano is almost unimaginable in taste. It is really hard to imagine a pizza or spaghetti sauce without the flavour of oregano. I prefer to grow oregano in my home garden and would advise you to do the same.Oregano is one of the most popular herb plant and one of the most suitable plants which can easily be grown in your home garden. While Oregano is usually thought of as a culinary herb, but it has been used medicinally for thousands of years.  Try a Tea made with Oregano for indigestion, bloating, flatulence, coughs, urinary problems, bronchial problems, headaches, swollen glands, and to promote menstruation.   It has also been used in the past to relieve fevers, diarrhea, vomiting, and jaundice.  Unsweetened tea can be used as a gargle or mouthwash.  Alternatively, the leaves can be dried, pulverized, and made into capsule form for when it is inconvenient to make a tea.  Please see the link below for details.  At this point in time, there have not been enough studies done to refute or to support any of the above claims, but Oregano is a safe herb for testing at home, so feel free to experiment.

  3. Oregano, as an herb, is the same plant whether it is used in cooking or used medicinally.  It's how it's used that makes the difference.

Oregano for use medicinally is best picked and used fresh, however, whereas oregano purchased in the grocery store is usually used in it's dried form.  Recipes calling for oregano usually mean the dried herb.  When using fresh oregano in recipes, you need to adjust and use more fresh oregano than oregano that's dried.

Dried oregano can be used for medicinal purposes, but the fresh oregano is what's usually used for oregano oil, oregano capsules, tinctures, washes, aromatice oil, etc.
