My 15m old will not drink from any other kind of sippy. I have tried them all! Is it okay for him to only drink from the straw sippys?

  1. My 3 have all done the straw sippy.  You are probably not giving him anything carbonated, but this doesn't work well with lids on because of the bubbles.

Straw sippy's help preserve the teeth and prevent tooth decay because the teeth are bypassed by the fluids.  Straw sippy's can increase the amount of air swallowed by the tot and can cause gas.  So if he is really fussy maybe mylicon would help.  Also during an ear infection the sucking (same for a bottle) can cause pressure and pain.

I am a big fan of straw sippy's.  I do not find a straw sippy cup to be embarrassing or inappropriate for a 15 m. old.  When he gets to 5 that is pushing it but you have several years before that point.

  2. A straw should be best. The other types have the drink go right over the teeth, but a straw helps the drink go past the teeth mostly.

  3. My kids only use straw sippies.  They can use a cup but they're still too young not to spill.  Make sure you rinse the straws as soon as he's finished to keep anything from drying inside.

  4. i guess it's ok but bacteria may lurk if you don't clean it well, so be sure to. try to wean your child off the straw sippys. it's embarrassing to carry it at formal events

  5. It is fine. The important thing is that your child is drinking.

  6. Sometimes as a parent you just have to go along with the one thing that works.  My 16 month old has cups like that and they spill alot though.

  7. I dont see why not if its the only thing he will drink from.Maybe you can gradually go to a regular cup with a straw.

  8. Those are fine as long as someone is with him in case he takes in too much and starts to choke he should be fine drinking from a straw sippy whether it's milk, juice or water.

  9. This shouldn't pose a problem. It will decrease spills, if anything, which is a good thing!
