  1. Its more like a vegitable since in common with a tomatoe it grows on a renewable stem close to the ground.

  2. A strawberry is what is known as an accessory fruit.  Each of the little "seeds" on a strawberry is actually a true fruit derived from an ovary.  The strawberry is not derived from an ovary, but rather the tissue that the ovaries develop on.

So short answer, yes, it is a fruit.  Long answer, it's not a "real" fruit, if you consider a "real" fruit to be one that is derived solely from ovary tissue.

  3. no

  4. Yes as pointed out its an accessory fruit. Normally fruits are derived from a swollen ovary, but in the strawberry it is the swollen receptacle ( base of the flower.....the "bit" that holds petals, sepals, carpel etc together.

  5. I think so yes.

  6. Botanically a strawberry is a fruit called an acessory.  It is a swollen receptacle on which are attached tiny hard dry fruits called achenes (what you call seeds).  It is not a  ripened ovary as most fruits are but is probuced mainly from "acessory" structures, hence the name.   (I had two  for breakfast, they were so large that was all I needed!  Hybrids are amazing)

  7. Depends who you are.

Botanically speaking a strawberry isn't a true fruit, it's known as an 'accesory fruit'.  The seeds are the real fruit, (known as the achenes), formed from the ovaries, whereas the sweet red fleshy part is formed from some adjacent tissue.

However if your a chef, a strawberry is a fruit.

  8. The strawberry is an accessory fruit, since the edible portion is non-ovarian in origin (it is largely swollen receptacle tissue). The true fruits which contain the seed of the strawberry are achenes, which are similar to tiny sunflower seeds. The achenes are the numerous, tiny, ellipsoid specks that cover the fruit surface. Fruit mature rapidly; ripening occurs in 20 to 50 days after pollination.

  9. YES!!
