I made my hamster a toy out of treats tied together with a string, much like a bird toy only not a really thick string. Is the string bad for her?

  1. YES!!  OMG!  Take it away from the hampster!  If the hampster swollows the string it will die.  Hampsters love to stuff and hoard food in their mouth and cheecks...what the hampster will do is stuff all those goodies in his/her mouth all at once and will eventually try to swallow it all.......and it will choke and die.

  2. Yes, it is very bad for hamsters. I do not know about the choking, but the main issue is that it will get into her intestines, wrapping around them and cutting off circulation, cutting tissue if it a very fine thread sincce hamster tissue it VERY thin, and also just blocking the intestines until it ruptures from such much pressure. Stay away from the string.

  3. Yes I think this could be potentially dangerous for hammy.  Hamsters love to store things in their cheeks and she might think this is food and try digest it and eat it. Look immediately in her cage and inside to cheeks to see if it is stored and remove it immediately. In future give hammy treats like puffed wheat or even popcorn, my hamster loved popcorn. good luck!

  4. Yes, it is dangerous for hamsters. Please take it out immediately. Hamsters have a hbit of chewing on anything they can get their mouths into and the thread can get ingested into their system and cause problems with digestion and even diarrhea. Sometimes, hamsters can also put it in their cheek pouches and cause inflammation of the pouches. So please do not use thread in their cages anytime.
