Is student ambassadors a scam??

i got a letter in the mail saying people in my county for 6 to 12 grade was being selected. my mother gave them 300$ for my brother to and couldnt afford anything else and they took that money and kept it no refund or anything. i want to kno should i do it? isnt that illegal exspecially for all the presidents supporting that?? sound illegal to me!

  1. It depends on which Student Ambassador program it is.

    People to People runs a very good one that my niece participated in.

    And if your Mom thinks she was scammed, she needs to call the Better Business Bureau if it is a company in the USA.  If not, then I am sorry that I don't know what to tell you other than maybe you should call a lawyer.

  2. I was a student ambassador in 2004. What it sounds like to me is that your mother gave the application deposit and then canceled. People to People does keep the application deposit if the student cancels, if they don't cancel and go through with the trip, those funds are put towards the total tuition.

    I went to Europe in 2004 with P2P and absolutely loved it and highly recommend it.

  3. Did you or your brother apply for this program?  If not, it appears to be a scam imitating this program which has been around for decades.
