Question:

Is sushi pretty healthy?

I know a few people who always eat sushi and when asked what they do to stay trim, they just say they eat a lot of sushi. But is sushi really that healthy? I love sushi with soy sauce. Does sushi itself have a lot of salt (i'm on a low sodium diet)?

  1. Not really. It has too much rice. Personally I prefer Sashimi which doesn't have any rice.

For low sodium, cut down on the soy. Add a bit [very small bit] of wasabi [Japanese horseradish] . Enjoy.

  2. Soy sauce is  loaded with salt.  Sushi can be a problem since it is raw fish.  It is however low in calories without the soy sauce that is.

  3. very healthy

  4. yes!!! that is one of my favorite foods and its so yummy! especially california rolls!!! ^O^

  5. yup sushi is one of the healthiest food around

  6. Yes, sushi is a very clean, fresh food. Nothing is fried or cooked in oil or butter or anything like that. I always use low sodium soy souce. Sushi without soy sauce has very little to no salt, I would say.

  7. no not at all you can get worms from sushi and all it is is raw fidh

    yuck

    PS

    try California rolls

    their basically cooked sushi

  8. Sushi is the bomb...I always get the spicy tuna tempura (this is the fatty one!) It's awesome.

  9. its healthy but rice is very high in calories,,,

too much is not good for you because the fish. there is salt in soy sauce, but they have low sodium soy saunce (which personaly i think tastes better anyways)

but if youw ant to eat healthier i dont recomend eating sushie all the time, just every once in a while.

  10. Its extremely healthy for you.

  11. Well..eating sushi is healthy but too much is not. cause theres rice which is fattening in large amounts and the toppings are usually pickled which can cause cancer.. But as always, moderation is the key. Sushi is great to stay trim cause its low fat..generally.

  12. yes it is healthy but you don't stay trim by just eating sushi you have to work out and exercise.

oh and soy sauce is high in salt

  13. no it doesn't its very healthy. but soy sauce has a lot of salt unless you get the low sodium kind

  14. yes its full of all natural ingredients

some sushi though like at most grocery stores has some fake ingredients like imitation crab

  15. They have reduced sodium soy sauce. No, sushi itself is salt free and great for you  =)

It's my favorite food ever! If you are worried about the extra carbs in all of the rice they have rice free sushi as well.

    Happy eating  =)

  16. They are pretty healthy as long as they don't use a lot of fatty ingredients in them.  Such as fried stuff, cheese, mayonnaise etc.  It the ingredient and how they are prepared.

  17. sushi is VERY healthy because it is raw. its delicious and i actually just had some for dinner! yum :)

  18. Sushi does not have any salt content by itself.

When you dip on the soy sauce there the salt

    is.

So just do a little dip but may not be as tasty.

  19. So long as it's all cooked.    Uncooked seafood is dangerous...very dangerous.....food poisoning, Hepatitis, parasites and liver damage are all possible outcomes.   You are putting your health in the hands of the chef when you eat raw seafood.

  20. low in cholesterol

  21. DEFINITELY! sushi is fish, rice, and seaweed!!!!!! VERY NUTRITIONAL!

  22. Sushi is a dieters dream so yeah it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. Yes! Most things fresh are healthy!

  24. yes it is fish but DON'T EAT THE PUFFIER FISH YOU COULD DIE.

  25. it's suppose to be healthy, i think it tastes alright

  26. Japanese think that it's depend on ingredients. But basically, it's healthy.

  27. only if you put salt or soy sauce on it. soy sauce has a fair ammount of salt in it....hehe i should know from experience. and yes sushi is extreemley healthy, just make sure that if you are making it rinse the rice because it contains alot of starch and restaraunts dont usually rinse the rice that well. dont go to any dodgy places that makes sushi because chances are that they dont wash their ingredients very well and you can get sick from that.

  28. Yum. Its good for you!

The soy sauce im sure is ok as long as you are not drinking a huge soda with it since you are on a low sodium diet.

  29. very healthy... lots of carbs in rice... so its long lasting energy, seaweed cleans out ur system and there is usually veg in the middle

  30. I would say it's pretty healthy. Sometimes seaweed has salt in it depending on what brand. Except soy sauce has a ton of sodium in it.

I'm vegetarian so I eat cucumber, eggs, and avocado, which are all healthy. But I've heard that fish is healthier than beef or other meats. So yeah, it's probably pretty healthy. But how much salt it has depends what you put in it.

Plus another reason why it's good to eat sushi is probably because if you eat one or two rolls it's still not a lot of food...

  31. Sushi is very healthful. You have rice mixed with vinegar, a few small cuts of veggies (avocado, cucumber) with a little bit of fish or crab meat, and all this is wrapped in seaweed. The seaweed has some sodium as well as the soy sauce.
