  1. YES sweet tea is bad for you....it has massive quantities of SUGAR in it, for crying out loud!

Sugar = calories.  Calories = fat.  Fat = poor health.

    Any questions????

  2. It probably is bad for you.....but so darned tasty!  :D

The amount of sugar should be 'to taste'.  Start off with a teaspoon, and keep adding that way until it is the sweetness you want.

  3. Green tea is not bad for you. It has many health benefits.  Sweet tea does not have health benefits.  It's just as bad for you as any other sugary drink.

  4. I've heard that green tea is good as an antioxidants :), better than nothing.

  5. Some people also sweeten green tea (or buy the Green Tea Frappucinos at Starbuck's) ......ANY excess sugar isn't good for you, no matter what tea it's in.  True "sweet tea" is made with a simple syrup, of 2 parts sugar- 1 part water, and that's added to the tea.  So, it would depend how much you put in your tea......

  6. Regular old sweet tea is generally made from black tea, or from a mixture of teas but most of the mixture is black tea. Black tea is good for you, it's just that green tea is better, and white tea is even better for you than green. (The more processed the tea is, the more its healthful benefits have been removed, black tea is the most processed.)

However, it's the sugar that presents a problem for a lot of people. If you don't eat a lot of sugary junk, and don't have blood sugar problems, a teaspoon or two of sugar in a glass of tea is not likely to be a big deal. Only you can decide if it is for you. And you could always use a healthier sweetener, like stevia or a little honey.

I make sweet tea by the pitcher at home, using 1/2 cup of organic sugar per 2 quart pitcher. It's not that much per glass when you break it down. I've also done it with 6 packets of Sweet-n-Low to 2 quarts for diabetic relatives.
