  1. No, at least not exactly.  To be considered professional means that you get paid to do it as in MLB, NHL, ect.  Swimmers do not get paid to swim.  And Olympians do not get paid to compete.  Few swimmers have made considerable amounts of money through endorsements, including Michael Phelps.

    ALL OTHER ANSWERS THAT SAY YES HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT

    NOBODY GETS PAID TO SWIM

    EDIT according to Wikipedia "pro sports as opposed to amateur sports are those in which athletes receive payment.  SWIMMING IS NOT LISTED as a pro sport the following are

    NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL, pro wrestling, auto racing, bull rider, golf pro, cricket, and the professional bowlers association
