Question:

Is swiss cheese like mozzarella?

I'm thinking about trying a monte cristo sandwich sometime, but it has swiss cheese in it. I never tried it, but I know it's white--kind of like mozzarella. Do they taste almost the same, especially when melted? Would I like if I like mozzarella, provolone, cheddar, American, parmesan, cream cheese, monterey jack, colby jack? I don't like ricotta or cottage cheese.

  1. Mozzerella and swiss are completely different. Entirely different.

Mozzerella is a fresh cheese made by boiling curds until they melt. Then they shape it, and put in in a brine to flavor it for a few days.

Swiss is an aged cheese, with a complex, sharp, nutty flavor. Its the one with the holes in it, formed by gasses from the bacteria that turn it into cheese.

Some people like it, others dont. I love it myself.

As for sandwich making, you can use whatever cheese you like. All of the ones you listed are great hot sandwich cheeses. Just experiment and find out which ones you like.

P.S. ricotta and cottage cheese are NOT good for sandwiches at all. Do not use them.
