  1. I would say its excellent. It teaches discipline and respect.

Gives an excellent workout, improves flexibilty along the same lines as some gymnastics would, only without the stigma (if they are guys).

Martial art, yes in the strictest form. Theres many variations on the theme, some schools teach a more sport based approach, others leaning towards tradition and of course those using it for self defence.

Competitions are great for kids, depending on age of course, most tkd is light contact so nobody is going to really get hurt.

Another good option for kids would be judo.

  2. Sure it's fun but it depends on the person.

Yes Tae Kwon Do is a real martial art and a sport as well. What i like about Tae Kwon Do is that it teaches you the art part and also the sparring part.

  3. Yes, taekwondo is a real martial art, perhaps even the most disciplined at all. As to whether kids will like it, it depends on the kid and their temperament etc. It's an olympic sport, you know.

  4. It's a great sport for kids. Great for fitness and self confidence! At my Teakwondo center they have a program where primary school kids come down once a week with their class and participate for sport. They also have a 'Ninja's' class which is kinda of fun TKW for kinds under 6 who can't participate in the proper classes yet.

I think there should be a fair few who have this sort of set up or something similar. Ask around and find out!

It is also defiantly a real martial art. It is very old and practiced the world over. There is traditional TKW which teaches the traditional style as well as sport TKW (the kind at the Olympics), you learn different things in both and they are both great. Most clubs have classes for both.

I think it's great, heaps of fun!

  5. Tae Kwon do is great for the exercise, social interaction and discipline alone.

Not too mention It can instill great pride and self confidence in your child.

Just be a parent when picking it:

    1. Find a good teacher:  Watch a class, know what you and your child should expect.

    2. Make sure they get a good warmup and stretch before they go to practice.

Really just do your research and make sure this is your child's choice as well as your own and it can be a very rewarding experience for you both.

  6. Yes, it's good for kids.

Yes, it it a real martial art.

  7. It is the competitive form of the martial art.

and I believe it is great for kids. Gives flexibility, stamina, strength, self control, and greatly improves responses.

  8. how old are the kids? I would say 4 is to young. I started at 13. It is a very good real martial art and have used it to defend myself a few times. It is also a good base to start into other combative sports. Anderson Silva started in Tae Kwon Do. So did Stephen Bonner. How ever if your kid does not want to do it I would say it is not good for that kid
