  1. Taekwondo is not particularly difficult (at least, not at first), but it does require practice over time.

When sparring, injury is always a possibility, but it's rare. When practicing and competing, most styles bar striking below the belt, striking the back, and hand techniques to the head. This cuts down on some injuries, and padding cuts down on bruises.

At tournaments, medics are at the standby at all times, but serious injuries (i.e., organ damage) don't occur.

  2. I am almost a second degree black belt. It is easy at first but then gets harder the higher you go. It is very hard to get hurt. While you are sparring or fighting you have a lot of protective padding. It is a very fun martial art.

  3. I can't say if it's easy or not but I know that as you practice and train you learn higher level things.... and those are hard but you will start small with anything you do.... i highly recommend doing taekwondo it's very fulfilling when you reach your goal.... and you learn to respect people.

  4. yes it is easy and you shouldnt really get hurt to bad if you learn everything correctly. you will get the ocasional bruise but that is with almost every sport.

  5. Its good u should do it, u will learn a lot from it.

  6. The only time when you may seriously get hurt is competing. Some people train for a whole year just for the chance at gold. So if you decide to take TKD (which I encourage) make sure you know if you will be required to spar, and if you are required to compete for belt promotion. Most schools don't "make" you compete at a national level to attend their school, but I know of a few.

Other than that you can expect sore muscles, bruises, and fatigue.

And right now is probably a good time to start. The school age girls can usually do very well against the boys because they are more limber and typically faster. That goes away (from my experience) in that teenage years.

    Best of luck.

  7. I've been doing TKD for over five years and I wouldn't say that Tae Kwon Do is 'easy'. I would say that it can be harder or easier but that all depends upon the person. Some people may find that it is harder or easier to learn, but it all takes practice. Lots and lots of practice. You're probably not going to sail right through it. And there will be some bumps along the way. If you're really serious about it (like wanting to become a black belt or just sticking with it for awhile) learning all you can will take a good bit of time and effort.

Also, I'm a little concerned about what you just said about being able to beat up boys at your school. You may just be stating that you can, but you should never take TKD or any martial art just so that you can 'beat people up'.  It's really quite the opposite. While you're learning are the forms, kicks and other basics, you're also learning how not to get into a fight. But if someone is threating you and there's no way you can get away and they are trying to really hurt you, then you will need to get away in the quickest way possible. Martial arts should never be used to start a fight. It's all about being able to control yourself  Things can go downhill very fast, so please, please, please don't take TKD so you can learn how to beat people up! Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now. :)

As for the getting hurt part, there's always a risk that you're taking by getting involved with the martial arts. There will be the occasional bump and bruise, but hopefully not worse than that. In my experience, most injuries happen while sparring, but in my class at least, you don't spar until you're a yellow belt and that's after several months of training.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your decision!
