Is taking folic acid in the 1st months of pregnancy still help, even if you didnt take it b4 conceving?

I know it's been said that taking folic acid 3 months prior to conception benefits the baby more, but will taking folic acid from the time you find out in the first month on be beneficial? Will it still help?

  1. Yes it will, just like breast feeding if only for a short time after the baby is born is still better for the baby than not doing it at all.

  3. my sister is pregnant and she was taking folic acid and they told her that she did not need to because there is plenty of it in your prenatals so i really do not think that is will help but every doctor says something different!!

  7. yes and you need to continue taking it throughout the pregnancy.  What you need is in a prenantal vitamin. I didn't take it before I concieved and my kids are just fine

  9. Of course!  Dont stop taking folic acid until the baby is born.  It helps with development of the baby throughout your entire pregnancy.
