Is taking non-essential amino acids bad for the body?

Since they are already naturally occurring in the body, would this mean that your body would stop producing them altogether and therefore you would become dependent on the supplement? ( like l- glutamine, or creatine), thanks.

  1. No, your body doesn't get confused by taking in non-essential amino acids.  You get non-essential amino acids every time you digest a hamburger.  Or a veggie burger if you're a vegetarian.  Creatine isn't one of the amino acids.

It's also not useful to your body.  If you overdo, you risk stressing your kidneys, and to me, drugs are about weighing benefits and risks.  These drugs have no documented benefits, despite myths about, e.g., creatine helping bodybuilding, so all you get is risk.

  2. No, there shouldn't be anything wrong with it. I might be concerned about what other ingredients are in those pills, but it's rare that these things have any effect at all, good or bad. Keep in mind that too much of anything isn't good for you, so don't go crazy taking non-essential amino acids or other side-effects may occur.
