I have been taking atleast 12-18 200mg ibuprofen a day for the past year or so for a constant headache that i have been getting everyday for a long time. My doctor gave me some migrane pills (midrin) but inbuprofen seems to work better. I have to take 6-8 at a time for them to do anything but usually 6 pills. I think im getting immune to them. But the other day I was having a headache that wouldn't go away for anything and I ended up taking 36 inbuprofen in 24 hours. But everyones been freaking out on me but theres nothing i can do it's the only thing that works. I'm allergic to caffeine so i can't take excedrin and tylenol and nothing else works. I am 19 and have been taking ibuprofen for over a year everyday... is this really going to cause me some problems?

  1. Taking that much ibuprofen can cause stomach bleeding.

You should go back to your doctor. Tell her in detail how much pain you are in (like what it prevents you from doing), and how many ibuprofen you are taking. This will show her that your headache is really severe and needs more intense treatment.

  2. an overdose of any medications is not good for you, even vitamens

  3. I'm not a doctor, but I know that is NOT good for you.  Your only supposed to take up to 2 ibprohins for 4 hours so max of 12 a day.  Ask your doctor to see what he recomends....

  4. YES!! this is a drug we are talking about, and as everyone knows, drugs can kill...including ibuprofen. im not going to bore u with all of the medical jargon, but i would get a second, third, forth, fifth, etc opinion until u have a diagnosis or relief measure that is controlled by a licensed professional that u are comfortable with. btw, if u have to take that many then the ibuprofen is NOT working...

  5. You go to a doctor and then decide to do what you want to do. Why pay a doctor? You need to tell the Dr. what your doing. Ibuprofen can cause stomach problems if taken over a long period of time.

  6. Okay, so basically, you're immune to ibuprofen. You're lucky you haven't overdosed. You actually addicted to it, and that's why you need more for the pain to go away. You need to cut down on your intake of ibuprofen, and then eventually stop taking it. I've heard that taking naps when you don't have a headache can lead to a headache. Try not to sleep in too much on weekends, that supposedly can lead to headaches. You should sleep on your back rather than stomach or any other positions.Apply heat or cold to your forehead or neck or take a hot shower. Another tip, is wear a headband, or wear a tight cloth around your head, you'll decrease the blood flow to the scalp and lessen the throbbing and pounding of the migraine. Eat a healthy and balenced diet.

Hope that those tips will help you, and remember that you should start decreasing the amount of ibuprofen you take each day, so that you can stop the addiction. If you have to take more than the recommended amount you're using too much and the medication has lost it's effect on the body.
