  1. Normally yes, but people in france prefer to "Eau de source" or bottled spring water.

  2. Drinking water all over France is the subject of government regulation and inspection. It is generally safe in any part of the country although it might be possible to find a well in some part of rural France which is not good.

  3. By law drinking water in (all of) France must comply with strict EU standards, however in some parts of France it doesn't always meet those standards ( http://www.lost-in-france.com/index.php?... ) hence a lot of 'locals' prefer to drink bottled water.

  4. When i lived in the north of France, people always said that tap water wasn't properly filtered and there could be lead deopsits in it, but then i would taste bottled water (like Cristalline) and it tasted exactly the same as the tap kind! The taste might not be the best in certain areas, but if you're in a rural area, with not much urbanization, then you should be fine!

  5. the sanitary measures are very strict in France, especially with regard to water. You can easily drink tap water here, but it has not the same taste everywhere. Water is more pure in certain areas, and there are more nitrates in others, but it's always safe. There is all the same more and more water pollution (nitrate pollution) and personally, I drink tap water and bottled water, but different kinds of water, because the mineral composition is always the same when you just buy one sort of water, and you have to vary the bottled waters, so that you have all minerals you need. When you drink tap water, there is no problem, it has a balanced composition and you can be sure it's safe.

  6. Bonjour !

it is required by French law that in each town, the town hall has to put up a notice saying whether the water is drinkable or not, according to the latest tests.

Go to you nearest 'mairie' and someone will tell you whether you can drink the water  in your house and/or garden (if you have any taps outside!)

    A la vôtre ! cheers !

  7. rural dordogne is beautiful w/ farmland, lots of fresh produce, vinyards, rivers etc.  you can drink the water there...some fountains will say not for drinking but otherwise the water is fine...
