Is tap water ok for a turtle?

we recently moved to an apartment, with only tap water, no filtered water like before. I have a 50 gallon tank with a 3 inch red eared slider. I am getting a Filstar Rena xp3 filter in a week, my question is will i have to get dechlorinater as well? Or will the filter be powerful enough to remove all the ammonia, nitrates, chlorine, etc. without the use of a dechlorinater?

Tap water is perfectly fine for turtles and the chlorine in it may even help with bacteria. I've used tap water for many years and have never had a problem. Dechlorinator is for fish. Pet stores will try to sell it to you for your turtles just to make some extra money.

i would say nooo! they may not die, but they will be unhappy. Tap water is filled with chemicals! since it's temporary, that's okay, but buy a brita filter if it's for more than a few days. they're cheep enough

You can use tap water, but I would suggest having it sit out for 24 hours. It helps get rid of immediate bad stuff that is in the water. Same recommendation goes for plants and such.

Just put it in a container the day before you are going to feed them.

yes.tap water is ok for turtles but you need some Amquel in the water for the feeders you put in the tank ..otherwise they will be floaters..but easier for the turtles to catch..

Thats great filter it should be fine.

Just make sure the turtles have penty of room..they will fight and rip each other apart for space and food and basking time..

I have had two Sliders for 36 yrs now plus a 8 yr old and a 5 yr old..

I have had them in a 150gal pond for about 6 yrs now..

Might as well go on the safe side and get the water dechlorinator that you use for fish. Its a liquid and you only have to use two teaspoons per 10 US gallons. it should help and it isn't expensive at all. It also clears out the nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, etc.
