  1. Hi there! Your son is totally normal. Tons of kids grind their teeth, even during the day. You will probably notice that his baby teeth will wear down a bit, but this is normal too. It doesn't affect the adult teeth at all, so no worries there. Most kids start to outgrow this habit when their adult teeth start to come in. I wouldn't suggest a mouthguard at his age. First, he'd probably spit it right back out. But most important is that it really isn't necessary. If he would continue to grind after his adult teeth come in, then it will be necessary for the guard. But this is rare and you have a while before that will be a problem. He is not lacking in vitamins either. That is an old wives tale that gets passed around so that more moms can worry even more about what they might not be doing right. :) You're fine, and he's completely normal. If you continue to worry, call your dentist. I'm sure he'd be happy to take a look!

  3. Teeth grinding is fairly common in toddlers.    It is their way of letting out stress,  especially at night when they are sleeping.   It can be quite loud,  I don't know how they sleep through it !      I don't believe it is from a vitamin lack however,  it could also be he is teething.   Just like babies like to bite on teether rings to feel better,   he may be grinding to help his slight teething pain.

You can certainly set up his first dental visit now,  and let a dentist take a peek,  just to be sure he is not damaging anything.    A pedodontist,  or child dentist,  would be even better.   He can probably just sit on your lap and you can assist the dentist in looking around his mouth.

It never hurts to check it to be sure.

  4. Many little ones grind their teeth. Many outgrow it, others don't. A night guard at his young age would not be advised, as the others have said. He is the right age to see a Pedodontist. Let them evaluate his mouth and see if everything is developing normally or if there is any damage from the grinding. Good luck!
