I'm planning on going there in 2010 (long time i know but I'm working next year then a year out) so is it likely to get so expensive in 2 years for food and travel? Also same for laos and vietnam?

  1. Todays news reporting the baht to hit 35 to US dollar by year end meaning goods and services will be even cheaper compare to UK and USA

  2. I doubt it very much if it will ever caught up to the outrages prices in Europe.

  3. I am a Thai. I left Thailand in 2001. I am coming back to live in Thailand shortly. I am shocked by the rapid increasing price of goods and services in Thailand.

My first apartment in Thailand cost 500 baht per month in 1998. My second apartment in Thailand cost 1200 baht in 2001. Now, the same apartment cost 3000 baht. Oil price was 18 baht per litre. It cost over 40 bath now. Thai noodle or fried rice used to cost 10-25 bath. It is now 40-50 bath. When I was young a piece of Thai Candie used to cost just a penny. I have no ideas how much does it cost now.

By the way. I live in a small town.

  4. Much of possibilities that the price will rising up.

HOpefully Not...but everything is becuase of oil problem....Stick to the news about oil price if it's going lower then maybe not...

I want to go back and live there but seems that isn't a choice for this year..

we'll just have to see and hope for the best.

  5. With the government predicting inflation this year to be somewhere around 7-8%, prices are definitely rising here, but with an average income of about $3,000 US per year in Thailand, don't expect prices on food and housing to get anywhere close to European prices for some time to come. Because of high tariffs prices for luxury goods are already close to or are approaching European prices, but it's still possible to eat and travel for a fraction of what the cost would be in Europe. In two years I think you'll be fine, but it won't be as cheap as it is now.

  6. No, Thailand will not become as expensive as European price, partly because Thailand is one of the world largest producer of foods, garments, and plenty of other commodities, and partly because the Central bank is a devil advocated who will put a bar on inflation at any cost.

By the year 2010, Europe will be so expensive that to fly to Thailand have lunch and fly back will be cheaper than going into L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Paris and have lunch with a bottle of 1961 Haut Brion. Errh, I think it’s cheaper flying to Bangkok and spend a week than lunch in that restaurant already now.
