Is that mandatory to update one's passport after marriage?

I have Indian Passport and am applying for student visa for Australia. after marriage i haven't updated my passport. Is australian embassy need my spouse name and my changed surname on my passport or is that fine with my Marriage certificate.

  1. In Australia, it is not mandatory to change the name in your passport after marriage; however, I cannot speak for other countries.

    The only stipulation is that the name on your ticket MUST be the same as in your passport.  You'll have a devil of a time trying to board a plane where your "photo ID" (ie passport) and your ticket have different names on them.

    I am also aware that some hotels also ask for "photo ID" when checking in (especially overseas).  And you get all sorts of strange looks when the reservation and the passport are in different names.

    You'll have to find out what the regulations are in your own country though, with regard to your passport.
