Is that possible to read language without the help of master?

It is possible to stumble your way through reading in a language you aren't really great at (I've done it in my classes), but you will make mistakes and may have sections you just can't understand.  It also depends what level of text you are reading, of course.  I have had no training in Italian or French, but I can understand some of it when I see it on packages or signs, just not enough to be confident I got the whole message.
