yes they do but i think its mainly because they can go faster in the water while doing their job than they would do if they were wearing boardshorts because they are heavier so therefore they can save more lives =]

edit- yes most australian life guards are hot lol. theyre not really sterotypes because most lifeguards in australia look that way, but not all australian males look that way.

Its because they wont get dragged down while swimming, so they can swim faster.. They rescue people, thats what they do.. If they're slowed down then it could risk a life.

If they wear board shorts, they will get heavy with water.. Same goes if they're fully clothed.. Its harder to swim.
