  1. Woah, What An Expensive Lens...

first of all, yes, it's worth the money, but in my opinion, if you have so much money to spend, why don't you just get a more advanced camera, that could get you better shots all together, and you could get a mid-range camera like the 40d instead of the beginner 400d, you can use an upgrade...

However, if you can't get your heart wrapped around that, you should get the canon, it's a great, professional lens that's used for the nature/wildlife photography, with a really long range zoom ability.

Like i thought, it's a canon EF lens, and the rebel xti ( 400d )

can fit both EF And EF-S lenses, so yes, it can fit, but you should get a better camera :), and buy that lens later down the line :) But, yes, it's great lens, and yes, it'll fit.

  3. That's an excellent L lens, which will work perfectly fine on the 400D.

But, what you need to consider is that this lens may possibly make your lightweight 400D look a little like a toy. It weighs 1380g and the camera weighs only 510g...so it will be quite front heavy, won't it? Just something to consider...

Another excellent L tele-photo lens to look at (even though it's focal length is limited) is the EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM. (it's half the weight of the 100-400mm).

But, if it's the focal length you absolutely need (and you can afford it)...then buy it. The lens will be a great investment and will serve you for many years (and through several camera upgrades).

    good luck...

  4. Hi BH.   Yes,  the Canon "L"  lenses are their top of the line professional models and worth the money.    It will work fine on your 400D and if you have the money for that lens,  it would be a wonderful addition to your camera gear.   It is a fact among serious photographers,  "cameras come and go.... but fine quality lenses are here to stay."    And, sadly, while your camera will depreciate in value to almost nothing....  that lens will pretty much retain it's value for years.   Buy cheap (less expensive) cameras.... buy expensive lenses.  It will give you extrordinary pictures...  beautiful quality images.  I wish I was getting one too!!!   Hope that gave you a little something to think about.  Thanks for reading.

  5. If you shoot sports, wildlife or other things that require a big zoom - then yes, it is worth it. Canon L series of lenses is Canon's premium glass. This is most likely the highest quality optics you can buy for a Canon camera, so yes, it costs more, but you pay for what you get.

It will certainly give you great quality shots on 400D

Also, if you are familiar with 35mm film - the lens will have the coverage similar to 160-640mm on film camera. This is enough to get good close-ups of birds, wild animals or to shoot sports and other things for which you really must zoom in.

    LEM.
