I could SWEAR I've seen it on TV called Holiday Inn, but all the internet research I've done says it's always been known as White Christmas, and that Holiday Inn is a 1940's movie with Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby. I'm SO confused!!!! Thanks for you help.

  1. The first movie was Holiday Inn.  They sang White Christmas in that and it became a popular song.  Then they made the movie White Christmas.

  2. White Christmas

    Actually:

The original idea was to reunite Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby, as they had been successful in Holiday Inn (1942). Astaire refused, as he had "retired" at the time, so the part was reworked for Donald O'Connor. O'Connor pulled out, and the part was reworked for Danny Kaye.

So it's not a remake, it was made to reunite, but Astaire was 'retired' so refused.

  3. "White Christmas" is a loose remake of "Holiday Inn."  The original was in B&W, and they wanted to make a color version, but Fred Astaire was busy, so Danny Kaye stepped in as the dancer.  You're not crazy, they both have very similar themes.

  4. Nope, it's "White Christmas" which, along with ,"The Wizard of Oz" has a become a perrenial favorite like,"Holiday Inn" which stars Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire(in one of his very few caddish roles)
