  1. The long answer is: Absolutely not

    The short answer is no.

Too many issues to list on the early 88 - 90 E32 7 Series. If you're head strong on an E32, the 91-92 were much kinder.

A later E38 would be a better choice.

  2. Imagine me saying this word really fast in a deep stern voice.

                                                 "no"

  3. 1989 BMW is not bad at all. It all depends on the owners. i think you can go up to 250,000 miles and then you have to rebuild the engine. good luck.

  4. Buddy, I owned a 1991 BMW 735iL and got rid of it last fall. The car had 252,000 miles on it, and it still started. BMW's in the late eighties or early nineties are, in my opinion, the strongest built. So if you can get one at a good price, I recommend it. Also... my family isn't all that into the whole mechanical part of cars. I mean of course we watch the oil, replace the filters, etc. But nothing ever extreme. And look at what it turned out to be. Gas isn't even that bad. Except with BMWs we tend to calculate with "Range", which is how many overall miles you can use until your empty. With ours, it was around 500 miles with a 22 gallon tank. So even if you did the calculations the MPG's aren't bad at all.

If you plan on getting a car like that, it takes a whole lot committment and realize work will probably be needed. But you have my complete recommendation.

  5. What Mike T is forgetting about is the 2 or 3 head gasket jobs it needed.  Or the NEW cylinder heads it needed.  The 1 or 2 transmission replacements.  The 1 or 2  new drive lines The window regulator replacements, The many many suspension and steering repairs,  The odd electrical problems like the dash lights turning off while driving/one side of the car is pumping out heat and the other A/C cooled air. one of the headlights not working and its not the bulb/ The door stops going bad or even ripping right out of the body/the clock readout going bad/ the headliner falling down.  And that's just the start of the problems.  735's and similar models steering boxes are starting to fail.  The car is a HORRIBLE car compared to the older BMWS that really gave BMW its good name, but BMW has been running that name into the mud and people still buy new ones every day..
